This year’s Erewash Triathlon was voted a huge success by competitors and spectators alike, with last weekend’s 2015 event attracting more than 400 entries from across the country.
Supporters cheered on the triathletes in sunny conditions at West Park in Long Eaton as the competitors pushed themselves to their limits to complete the 400m swim, 10-mile bike ride and the final 5km run within the park.
The winning men’s triathlete crossed the line in 47mins 54 secs and the women’s top competitor finished in 53mins 45secs. The triathletes included two guest competitors from Long Eaton’s German twin town Langen.
The triathlon is one of Erewash Borough Council’s biggest events in the sport and health calendar and was managed this year by East Midlands triathlon specialists Punishing Events.
The event again attracted a full field and people of all abilities from the complete novice through to seasoned triathletes.
Councillor Mike Wallis, Erewash Borough Council’s Lead Member for Culture and Leisure, says:
“This event just gets better and better. It was an amazing day and we have had a mountain of positive feedback saying how much everyone enjoyed it and how well organised it all was.
“There were blue skies for the day and – with the competitors – well over 1,000 people packed into a glorious West Park. Children, families, sports fans of all ages all turned out to cheer on the triathletes. It was a great day all round and everyone will have lots of lovely memories.”
